Full Description: Today's concert features original compositions as well as music from the Gypsy Kings, Trio Rosenberg, Carlos Santana, Armik and more. New Age Flamenco was created in 1998 by its leader, Oleg Ruvinov. The group often performs at various concerts and festivals. Their music is steeped in Latin American, Mediterranean, Gypsy and Russian folk sounds, incorporating jazz and contemporary rhythmic musical elements., CDs will be available for sale after the concert.

Full Description: The authors of "The True Patriot" offer a visionary reexamination of American politics and economics: What if we viewed democracy not as a machine, but as a garden? A successful garden functions according to the inexorable tendencies of nature, but it also requires goals, regular tending, and an understanding of connected ecosystems. Everyone is invited to join in the discussion., Liu is an author, educator and civic entrepreneur. He is the founder of the Guiding Lights Network, an organization dedicated to promoting great citizenship, and the True Patriot Network, dedicated to promoting progressive civic values. He served as a White House speechwriter and the deputy domestic policy adviser for President Clinton. Liu has served on the board of trustees of The Seattle Public Library since 2002., Hanauer is a Seattle-based serial entrepreneur, venture capitalist, author and activist with a knack for identifying and building transformative business models. He coauthored "The True Patriot" with Eric Liu and cofounded the True Patriot Network. He also cofounded the Washington State League of Education Voters (LEV), a nonpartisan statewide political organization focused on promoting public education, where he serves as copresident.

Full Description: A former New York Times Beijing bureau chief tells the story of a struggling Chinese basketball team and its quixotic, often comical attempt to make the playoffs by copying the American stars of the NBA and hiring former NBA player and Seattle SuperSonics coach Bob Weiss., The Shanxi Brave Dragons, one of China's worst professional basketball teams, hired Weiss as a coach. The team's owner, Boss Wang, promised that Weiss would be allowed to Americanize his players by teaching them "advanced basketball culture." Desperate for his team to play like Americans, Wang -- a peasant turned steel tycoon -- nevertheless refused to allow his players the freedom and individual expression necessary to truly change their games.

Full Description: Seattle Art Museum Downtown presents the only United States stop for "Gauguin & Polynesia: An Elusive Paradise," a landmark show highlighting the complex relationship between Paul Gauguin's work and the art and culture of Polynesia. SAM curator, McClusky, will discuss the works and their intertwined context at this preview lecture., The exhibition includes about 60 of Gauguin's brilliantly-hued paintings, sculptures and works on paper, which are displayed alongside 60 major examples of Polynesian sculpture that fueled his search for the exotic. Organized by the Art Centre Basel, the show is comprised of works on loan from some of the world's most prestigious museums and private collections.

Full Description: Becker and Stein will talk about their research and discoveries about the Fair of the Future in "The Future Remembered: The 1962 Seattle World's Fair and Its Legacy.", The Century 21 Exposition, better known as the Seattle World's Fair, took place in 1962 from April 21 to Oct. 21. As the first major American world's fair after World War II, it presented an optimistic vision of a future improved through science and technology and promoted Seattle to the world as a space-age city. Exhibits focused on industry, commerce, science and the future, but also included fine arts, food and entertainment. Ten million people attended the fair, and it left Seattle with many lasting legacies, including the Space Needle, the Monorail and the Seattle Center.
