DESCRIPTION:This marks RI’s Premiere of Sir Michael Tippett's oratorio w
hich was composed at the beginning of World War II. It was inspired by
the assassination of a German diplomatic official by a teen-aged Jewish
youth—the event used as the excuse for the horrific events of Kristallna
cht. The work is a profound exploration of oppression\, outrage\, and pa
cifist conscience. A Child of Our Time is most widely known for its ado
ption of the African-American spiritual\, and the unique philosophical c
ontent of its libretto inspired by the ideas of Carl Jung. The concert w
ill also feature Totus Tuus by Henryk Gorecki and Samuel Barber’s Adagio
for Strings. Soloists for the concert are: Diana McVey\, Soprano\; Ter
