It just prevents slaughter plants from re-opening because of the inherent cruelties that orginally shut them down four years ago., Many horse owners do not want their horses to go to slaughter when they sell them but too many of them do and will continue to do so as long as people sell them at auctions and horse killers buy them. and this tragedy can now be stopped., The pilgrimage will converge ,ongoing to Washington DC where people and horses will alert our representatives that we want horse slaughter stopped., Come join in on a great horse adventure!
Contact email: truthheals7@yahoo.com
Contact phone: 831-644-6160 or 509-937-2784

Mid-America Alfalfa Expo & Conference

Buffalo Co. Fairgrounds, Kearney, NE
Tuesday, February 7 – Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Well-known commentator, columnist and ag advocate Trent Loos will address the Mid-America Alfalfa Expo & Conference on Tuesday, Feb. 7.
“I’m going to talk about the sustainability of alfalfa production but not from a yield per acre point of view,” Loos said. “Instead, I’ll talk about how we can continue to do what farmers in the United States do better than anyone else in the world: convert natural resources into human consumable products that ultimately improve human lives.”
Loos said the challenges surrounding this effort have never been greater.
“We have two choices,” he said. “We can sit back and let the forces that be continue to create hurdles, or we can step up to the plate and be heard. The answer to the challenges lies in the person you look at in the mirror.”
Loos travels the country motivating and educating audiences on issues related to animal agriculture and food production. He also records and produces radio reports that air on more than 100 stations across the country and reach a listening audience of 4 million people. These radio programs includes daily Loos Tales and Rural Route programming, as well as Dakota Trails & Tales, Colorado Trails & Tales, Loos Trails & Tales and Illinois Truth be Told.
Raised on a diversified farm near Quincy, IL, Loos entered the hog business at a young age and has been involved in livestock production ever since. He and his wife Kelli operate a purebred Limousin and Angus herd while raising their three daughters on their ranch in central Nebraska.
Other speakers include Al Dutcher, Nebraska climatologist; Ron Hansen, University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) ag economics professor; and Rick Rasby, UNL cattle feeding expert.
One of the most significant items on the agenda is the introduction of the Alfalfa Valuation Analysis, a powerful new approach to the standardization of alfalfa quality and value that has been developed by NAMA.
Registration includes admission to all presentations and programs, a Tuesday afternoon reception, dinner Tuesday evening, admission to the large alfalfa industry tradeshow and the opportunity to bid in the fundraising auction that takes place Tuesday afternoon. The auction features a wide range of items including seed, harvesting equipment, supplies and other valuable products and services.
Registration is $10 per person in advance (tickets must be purchased by Noon, Feb. 6, 2012) and $20 at the door. Participants under the age of 18 are admitted at no charge. Registration is available online at www.alfalfaexpo.com.

Event description: Sponsored by the Nebraska Alfalfa Marketing Association (NAMA), the Mid-America Alfalfa Expo & Conference will be held at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney, NE, Feb. 7-8, 2012.
The Great American Horse Pilgrimage

Begins with you and your horse in your town.
Wednesday, February 8, 2012 – Thursday, February 7, 2013

Event description: Purpose : A pilgrimage across America by horse or horse and trailer to alert the public about the dire curcumstances our horses are in concerning horse slaughter ., Events can also be organized within a persons own district for those who cannot join the ride. The ride begins now from town to cities across America and is on going until horse slaughter is stopped in the USA and wild horse round-ups come to a halt until an independant evaluation of the number of wild horses on BLM public lands can be verified. There are two bills in Congress that would stop horse slaughter in the US, SB 727 and HR 503, the Equine Cruelty Prevention Act. You can read this act for yourselves at tomas.gov, type in the search bar S.727., These bills do not prevent people from killing their own horses.

NDSU Farm/Ranch Transition Planning Class

North Dakota Interactive Video Network locations around the state
Thursday, February 9, 2012, 5:15 – 8:30pm

These are just a few of the questions that will be answered at the farm/ranch transition planning workshop series the North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension Service is hosting Feb. 9, 16 and 23, 2012. The sessions will run from 6:15-9:30 p.m. (CST) and 5:15-8:30 p.m. (MST) at the following locations across the state:
• Ashley High School, 703 Main St. W., Ashley
• Beulah High School, 204 5th St. N.W., Beulah
• Bottineau County District Court room, second floor, Bottineau County Courthouse, 314 5th St. W., Bottineau
• Towner County Extension office, 404 5th Ave., Suite 1, Cando
• Carrington Research Extension Center, 663 Highway 281 N.E., Carrington
• Griggs County Extension office, Griggs County Courthouse, 808 Rollins Ave. S.W., Cooperstown
• Armory meeting room, 417 5th St. N.E., Devils Lake
• Grand Forks County Extension office, County Office Building, 151 4th St. S., Suite 302, Grand Forks
• North Central Research Extension Center, 5400 Highway 83 S., Minot
• Mountrail County Extension office, Memorial Building, 18 2nd Ave. S.W., Stanley
• Barnes County Public Health DES room, Barnes County Courthouse, 230 4th St. N.W., Valley City
• Richland County Commission room, Richland County Courthouse, 418 2nd Ave. N., Wahpeton
“Due to the fact that farmers and ranchers have some very unique transition issues, these sessions are geared to their specific needs,” said Willie Huot, Grand Forks County Extension agent and state coordinator for the farm and ranch transition planning program. “The major increase in asset values, especially land, in the last several years has made this topic even more critical of late.”
The sessions will have a combination of presentations via the North Dakota Interactive Video Network (IVN) and local experts at each location. Attending all three sessions is very important.
Topics for the first session are why you should plan your estate, who should be involved, what materials you’ll need and the importance of communication among family members. The IVN presenter will be Gary Goreham, professor of rural sociology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at NDSU.
Session 2 will cover farm business arrangements, including the pros and cons of different types of business organizations for farmers and ranchers in North Dakota.
Session 3 will address farm succession planning, and tax and economic consequences of asset transfer strategies. The IVN presenter for both sessions 2 and 3 will be Andy Zenk, agribusiness consultant, AgCountry/Farm Credit Services, Grand Forks
The early bird registration fee is $55 for individuals and $15 each for spouses or business associates (up to two additional) if postmarked by Feb. 2, 2012.
After that date, individual registrations will increase to $75. Registration fees include materials and refreshments.
For registration information, contact the Extension agent at the site you wish to attend. Registration forms, as well as online registration, also are available at www.ag.ndsu.edu/anniesproject. Anyone interested in attending the workshop should register as soon as possible because seating is limited at most of the sites.

Event description: Do you want to design an orderly and successful transition plan for your farm/ranch business? Are you uncertain about how to choose the successor or successors best suited to continue your business into the future?
