Idaho State University’s journal of creative works, Black Rock & Sage, is looking for unique, quality works (both experimental and traditional) from all disciplines. The journal’s editors invite submissions of previously unpublished fiction, poetry, nonfiction, art, photography, schematics, and music for its 2012 edition. Submissions are open to all students currently enrolled at ISU and will be accepted between now and February 14, 2012.

Workplace violence has emerged as an important safety and health issue in today's workplace. While workplace violence was once confined to a few specific industries, it now affects all businesses of every size and type. Almost 2 million Americans are victims of assaults and threats of violence each year. It is important to be aware of workplace violence and understand ways to protect yourself and others.

Part 2 will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 14, from 12:00-1:00 pm. Campus Safety Officers will be there to show a video on workplace violence and answer questions. Superfood Showdown

The "Superfood Showdown" Series is being held on the Idaho State University campus the first Thursday of September, October, November, February, March and April from 7:00-8:00 PM. Chefs from Idaho State University and college food services will compete in culinary challenges every first Thursday of the month at ISU in what the school is describing as a collegiate version of "Iron Chef".

University chefs with ISU student volunteers will prepare three course portions of an original, one-of-a-kind meal which must overcome two challenges: they must feature a Superfood (a calorie sparse and nutrient dense food meaning they pack a lot of punch for their weight as goodness goes) AND they may only use a microwave to cook. With these criteria, college students will be able to walk away with a healthy and realistic alternative to dorm room dining.

Nepalese students of ISU join forces once a year to treat ISU and the Pocatello community with authentic food, traditional music, dances and several cultural presentations.

Like every year, NSA of ISU will be organizing Nepalese Night with a theme “Nepal : A Cultural Enigma”. This year, the program is aimed at disclosing the cultural enigma of our Himalayan nation, Nepal. Also, there will be authentic Nepali food prepared by our own Nepali students at ISU.

This year, the dinner includes Pulao (White Rice with spices), Kukhurako Masu (Chicken Curry), Mixed Vegetable Curry and Tamatarko Achaar (Tomato Pickle). And the performances include traditional dances, songs and a fashion show.

The night is scheduled to be on February 11th starting 6 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Ballroom. During the three hours of the event, we will take you across the Himalayas, through the hills into the plains. We invite you discover how big and diverse a small country can actually be.

The Idaho State University chapter of Psi Chi is hosting the Southeastern Idaho Psi Chi Research Conference, a conference that will allow undergraduates of Idaho and northern Utah to present psychology- and behavior-related research and learn about future careers, graduate school education, and academic funding opportunities in psychology. Abstract submissions are limited to topics related to psychology and behavior. Researchers outside of psychology are encouraged to submit abstracts (e.g., biology, pharmacology, neuroscience, etc.). The Idaho State University French Club will sponsor its 12th
annual Taste of France dinner and entertainment night entitled
“the French Riviera” on Saturday, February 25th, in the Pond Student
Union Ballroom. The event is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7:30
p.m. Dinner will start at 6 p.m.

The French Club will serve cuisine of various French meals.
Dinner will include chicken Provencal, potatoes au gratin, green salad,
French bread, French cheese, chocolate mousse and drinks.

Entertainment for the evening will include pictures from the
most famous areas of Southern France and the French Riviera,
French music,a lot of fun and door prizes. Tickets will be on sale,
in advance, starting February 12th in the Rendezvous main lobby
11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Prices for advanced tickets are : $7 for students
with a valid ID card; $8 for ISU faculty and Staff; $9 for general public.
All tickets will be available at the door the night of the event for an
additional dollar.

This workshop session explores alternatives to traditional presentation formats. This presentation technique engages learners by appealing to mulitple senses. This method encourages the development of higher order thinking skills, by the inclusion of imagery, design, animation, and effective use of transitions. Engage the audience interactively by enhancing participation and retention of the material covered. Participants will learn to: * Design bullet-free presentations * Create messages with impact * Integrate essential elements of presentation design * Employ images and graphics effectively * Facilitate audience involvement throughout the presentation.

This workshop is a hands-on, in-depth workshop. Computer lab has PowerPoint 2010. (If your computer has 2007, call the IT dept. to update this for free). In these classes students use new or existing lesson plans, so by the end of the session they have a fully developed presentation that is ready for use.

Superfood Showdown

The "Superfood Showdown" Series is being held on the Idaho State University campus the first Thursday of September, October, November, February, March and April from 7:00-8:00 PM. Chefs from Idaho State University and college food services will compete in culinary challenges every first Thursday of the month at ISU in what the school is describing as a collegiate version of "Iron Chef".

University chefs with ISU student volunteers will prepare three course portions of an original, one-of-a-kind meal which must overcome two challenges: they must feature a Superfood (a calorie sparse and nutrient dense food meaning they pack a lot of punch for their weight as goodness goes) AND they may only use a microwave to cook. With these criteria, college students will be able to walk away with a healthy and realistic alternative to dorm room dining.
