DESCRIPTION:The 2pm lecture will be directly followed with a 3 to 4pm re
ception with hor d'oeuvres and drinks. An RSVP is appreciated - contact
Nicole Ernst at ernstn@ohsu.edu. \n\nEstablished in 2004\, the Joseph D.
Matarazzo lecture series honors Department Founder and Emeritus Profess
 or\, Joseph D. Matarazzo\, Ph.D. \n\nDr. Fanselow's lab is interested in
the nature and function of fear. Of particular interest is how fear is
learned and how fear memories are stored in the brain. Another important
question they look into is how fear memories are \ntranslated into \nsp
 ecific behavior patterns.

DESCRIPTION:Mindfulness is paying attention in a particular way\, on pur
pose\, in the present moment\, and non-judgmentally. Mindfulness meditat
ion teaches skills for being in the present moment no matter what the si
tuation. Mindfulness meditation studies show positive outcomes in qualit
y of life and symptoms across a variety of health issues (stress\, depre
 ssion\, anxiety\, insomnia\, PTSD\, chronic pain\, and cancer). The key
to getting the most out of mindfulness is PRACTICE. Mindfulness can be a
pplied to any object of attention. For example\, you can focus on your b
reath\, sounds\, thoughts\, or emotions. You can also be mindful during
your daily life activities like eating\, cooking\, or brushing your teet
h.\n\nThe goal of this weekly drop-in mindfulness meditation class is to
practice many different types of guided mindfulness meditations to expe
rience which ones work best for you. Each week will highlight a differen
t guided mindfulness meditation. No experience is required.\n\nHOW TO FI
ND THE ROOM: Take the E elevators in the Hatfield Research Building to t
he 14th floor. Head straight towards the windows as you exit the elevato
 r. 14D03 will be on the left. \n\nTo subscribe to the OHSU Mindfulness M
 editation listserv please visit: http://mailman.ohsu.edu/cgi-bin/mailman
/listinfo/mindfulness\n\nHelané Wahbeh is a clinical researcher at OHSU.
She specializes in mind-body medicine and has a NIH grant to study mech
anisms of mindfulness meditation in posttraumatic stress disorder. She h
as completed a four year meditation teacher training program and was tra
ined by Jon Kabat-Zinn in mindfulness meditation. She has had her own pe
rsonal mediation practice for over ten years.\n\nPLEASE NOTE: ON JUNE 5
AND AUG 7 THE CLASS WILL BE HELD AT THE STUDENT CENTER MEDIA ROOM. A REM
INDER AND ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE MADE THROUGH THE MINDFULNESS LISTSERVE.

requirements. \n\nREDCap offers two secure\, web-based applications (RED
Cap and REDCap Survey) designed to support data management for research
studies. REDCap provides: 1) a stream-lined process for rapidly building
a database or online survey\; 2) a user friendly interface for collecti
ng data\; 3) audit trails for tracking data manipulation\; 4) exports to
common statistical packages\; and 5) advanced features\, such as branch
ing logic\, file uploading\, and calculated fields.

A REM

.\n\n<b>New to REDCap?</b>\nOCTRI offers REDCap Tutorials that introduce
new users to REDCap.\n\n\nTutorial Sessions will provide researchers an
d their staff with an overview of REDCap capabilities. Attendees will le
arn how to prepare and create REDCap databases and surveys. \n\nTutorial
s are held on the first Thursday and third Monday of each month from 2 p

CTRI can provide researchers with tools for data collection and manageme
nt. REDCap applications are user-friendly—fast and easy to set-up\, web-
based\, and secure—ensuring data quality and compliance with regulatory
requirements.

DESCRIPTION:Peter Rotwein\, MD\nProfessor and Chair\nBiochemistry & Mole
 cular Biology\nOregon Health & Science University\n\nAbstract:\n\nThe fo
cus of this presentation will be on the interactions of environmental cu
es (primarily growth factor-mediated signal transduction pathways) with
intrinsic (genetic) programs to control skeletal muscle differentiation.
The emphasis will be on how distinct signaling pathways modify each ot
her and thus regulate both the rate and extent of differentiation. Para
llels will be drawn between the impact of different signaling modules on
muscle differentiation and on developmental decisions affecting other m
 esenchymal cell types.
