Families of college-bound students may be surprised to learn that the  out-of-pocket expense of sending their children to school will cost twice as much as tuition alone. Or that attending private colleges could save them thousands of dollars. Summit Credit Union is teaming up with Legacy College Funding to bring these and other college financial planning myths to light with two workshops: “College Planning Relief” and “College Funding and FAFSA” .
The College Planning Relief workshop will be held on Thurs. Feb. 2nd from 7–8 pm at the Waunakee Summit Credit Union located at 304 E. Main St. in Waunakee. The educational presentation will focus on the financial aspects of college planning, calculating the true costs of college, strategies for paying for college, and how to navigate the financial aid process.
The College Funding and FAFSA workshop will be held on Wed. Feb. 8 from 7–8 pm at the Westport Summit Credit Union at 5419 Blue Bill Park Dr. in Madison. The workshop will discuss the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and help participants understand how family finances affect Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and how to reposition oneself to increase financial aid and pay less out-of-pocket.
Both workshops are free and open to the public. Workshop attendees will receive a professional one-on-one assessment of their family’s financial situation, a college tuition discount valued at $500 at participating universities, and an “ABC’s of Financial Aid” guide. The Evening is entitled, “Everyday Prayer for Everyday People.” These Evenings will be held on the second Monday of each month September through May. It will be a time for people to come with all their needs and concerns and to join in prayer with each other. Time for prayer together, a presentation by either Mary Yessa or Fr. Tom Zelinski, quiet time, closing prayer service and blessing. There will also be a blessing of blankets. Those attending may bring one or more blankets to be blessed for your use or to be passed on. Summit Credit Union is teaming up with Legacy College Funding to help bring these and other college financial planning myths to light with the “College Planning Relief” workshop designed for prospective and current college students and their parents.
The College Planning Relief workshop will be held on Thurs., Feb. 16 from 7-8 p.m. at the Oregon Public Library located at 256 Brook St. The focus will be on financial aspects of college planning, how to figure out the true costs of college, strategies for paying for college, and how to navigate the financial aid process.
Led by Mary Owen, licensed college planning relief specialist and founder of Legacy College Funding, the workshop is free and open to the public. Workshop attendees will receive a professional one-on-one assessment of their family’s financial situation, a college tuition discount valued at $500 at participating universities, and an “ABC’s of Financial Aid” guide.
