DESCRIPTION:The War Came By Train\nMonday-Saturday (10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.
 m.)\nSunday (11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)\nThe American Civil War was the fi
rst major conflict where railroads played a prominent role and the B&O w
as the major line that straddled a divided country. Between April 19\, 1
 861 (The Baltimore Riot of 1861) and April 21\, 1865 (Lincoln’s funeral
train leaving Baltimore for Illinois)\, the B&O stood witness and partic
ipant in the greatest conflict the United States has ever faced and chan
ged the course of American history. The War Came By Train serves as the
B&O Railroad Museum’s primary attraction for the five year commemoration
of the War’s sesquicentennial. The National Landmark Roundhouse will ex
hibit the largest assemblage of Civil War railroad equipment in the Worl
d featuring locomotives and rail cars that served during the war\, signi
ficant military and personal artifacts that will change annually to port
ray each year of the war (some artifacts have never before been on publi
c display)\, and a narrated\, round trip train ride to the original site
of Camp Carroll\, the largest Union encampment in Baltimore.

DESCRIPTION:Attention Adults 65+: Participate in a clinical research stu
 dy to test a new\, non-invasive\, in-home diagnostic screening for the e
arly detection of colorectal cancer (CRC)\n\nColorectal cancer (CRC) is
the second leading cancer killer in the United States. The disease is of
ten considered the most preventable\, but least prevented cancer. Older
adults\, especially\, are more likely to get colorectal cancer\, with mo
st new diagnoses occurring in people 65 and older. Colorectal cancer is
highly treatable if found early\, but more than 40 percent of adults age
50 and older have not been screened as recommended.\n\nNow\, an investi
 gational\, non-invasive\, in-home screening test\, developed by Exact Sc
iences in collaboration with Mayo Clinic\, is being studied in Detroit a
nd could offer a new screening option for the early detection of colorec
tal cancer\, if approved by the FDA.\n\nFor men and women between the ag
es of 65-84 who may be interested in participating in the research study
\, please call 1-800-949-8292. Qualified study participants may be eligi
ble for compensation. For more information\, please call 1-800-949-8292
or visit www.exactsciences.com\n\nDisclosure: Mayo Clinic and some of th
e investigators associated with this research have a financial interest
in the technology being studied in this research.

DESCRIPTION:The National Electronics Museum's new exhibit highlights the
remarkable story and early computers of Apple Inc. Throughout Apple’s
history Steve Jobs’ priority was to focus on the quality and revolution
of the product\, not making money. He maintained his priority by recrui
ting engineering and design pioneers to push the limits of computing. An
d\, he championed a vertical model featuring an integration of high-end
hardware and software. With his belief that "innovation distinguishes b
 etween a leader and a follower\," work ethic\, and creative marketing\,
Apple displayed to users how to easily run a business\, produce their ow

DESCRIPTION:Did you grow up reading the “Little House on the Prairie” bo
ok series? Or secretly yearn to be Laura Ingalls? If so\, join author We
ndy McClure as she discusses her book\, “The Wilder Life: My Adventures
in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie” on Saturday\, June 2
\, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bel Air Library\, 100 East Pennsylvania Avenue in
Bel Air. The lecture\, open to the public and free of charge\, is follow
ed by a book signing.	\n\nThe lecture is part of Journey Stories\, a Smi
thsonian exhibit based at the Abingdon branch of the Harford County Publ
ic Library from May 19 to July 6 that examines the intersection between
modes of travel and Americans’ desire to feel free to progress and flour
ish\, voyage and explore. Various cultural opportunities in conjunction
with Journey Stories are being held in library branches and activity cen
ters across the county.\n\nIn “The Wilder Life\,” McClure writes about h
er love of the “Little House” books when she was growing up and how that
love was rekindled as an adult. Retracing the pioneer journey of the In
galls Family\, McClure heads west to the Big Woods of Wisconsin\, where
Laura was born\; to the site of the original log cabin\, where a replica
stands in its place\; to the crowded shores of Plum Creek in Minnesota
\; and to South Dakota\, where she weathers a hailstorm in a rented cover
ed wagon.\n\nShe learns to churn butter in her living room while catchin
g up on episodes of the 1970s television series\; catches a musical adap
tation with Melissa Gilbert (who played Laura in the television version)
in the role of Ma\; and enjoys a “Little House”-inspired cocktail calle
d The Half Pint.\n\nMcClure rekindled her love of the “Little House” boo
ks thanks to her finding “Little House in the Big Woods”—the only “Littl
e House” book she actually owned as a child—in storage and reading it ag
ain. Her boyfriend\, Chris\, found a vintage boxed set\, and McClure rea
d through them within weeks. Her interest in “Laura World” was sparked a
gain.\n\nThe June 2 event will feature McClure discussing her travels th
rough “Laura World” and how the trip and the book were more and less rew
arding than anticipated. A question-and-answer session will follow McClu
re’s remarks.\n\nA book signing will be held after the discussion. Hardb
ack copies of “The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Litt
le House on the Prairie” will be available for purchase for $20 (cash\,
check\, credit card) at the event.\n\nTo register for the event\, call t
he Bel Air Library at 410-638-3151. For more information\, visit www.hcp
lonline.org.\n\nJourney Stories is part of Museum on Main Street\, a col
laboration between the Smithsonian Institution and the Maryland Humaniti
es Council. The Journey Stories exhibition and accompanying programs are
offered to the public through a partnership between Harford County Publ
ic Library and the Harford County Department of Community Service.\n\nHa
rford County Public Library operates 11 branches located throughout Harf
ord County. The library serves more than160\,000 registered borrowers of

. But what happens to your pet if you suddenly become sick or die? \n
\nFor many of us our pets are beloved members of our families. We devote
a big part of ourselves seeing that they are happy and healthy\, but wha
t will happen to your pet if you suddenly become ill or die? Who will t
ake care of your little friend? Will they know what your pet’s needs ar

eir owner died or became too sick to manage their care. Ensure that you
r best friend will be taken care of if something unforeseen happens to y
ou.\n\nJoin us for a free seminar on pet trusts presented by attorney Mi
 chael C. Hodes\, Esquire of Hodes Pessin\, & Katz. You’ll also learn a
bit about pet insurance and ways you can help other homeless animals. F
ollowing the seminar a tour of Baltimore Humane Society’s no-kill shelte
