Many know Mary Mayne as the wife of Patrick Mayne and the mother of Mary Emelia and Dr James Mayne, two of the most significant benefactors of the University of Queensland. But Mary was also an astute business woman, and after Patrick's untimely death in 1865 she managed his estate and commenced building her own fortune. Dr Bernadette Turner will discuss Mary Mayne's business career including her purchase of the Moorlands estate. Dr Turner will show photos of the original estate and gardens.
