LA County Master Food Preserver Program Applications open
What could be greener than preserving seasonal foods and making them last all year round? That is what the program is all about -- plus teaching low-resource communities how do to the same. We are all about sustainability!
Applications are open until Feb. 5 for the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) Los Angeles County Master Food Preserver (MFP) Program. This application is for the spring 2012 class, which starts on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 and meets every Tuesday until June 5, 2012 from 5:30 to 9:30pm. Most classes will be held at UCCE located at 4800 E. Cesar E. Chavez Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90022. Some meetings may be held at an off-site location.
The fee for this course is $120, which includes course books. Applicants who are chosen to participate in the program will be asked to pay the fee online using a credit card before the begining of the class. This fee is non-reimburseable. Applicants must also pay the fee for the fingerprint and background check.

Sustainable Works Energy Workshop
The Green Living Energy Workshop is a 1 1/2 our demonstrtion Workshop.
We will spend 1/2 hour learning about the main problems related to Energy. We will then take 30 minutes to review Energy solutions which participants can implement very quickly and easily after completing the workshop. For the last 30 minutes, Jake Hakimi, from Alcon Lighting, will discuss and demonstrate LED lightbulbs. He will have samples and will talk about the LED replacement for each type of incandescent. He will also discuss cost and energy savings.
Sustainability tools related to energy will be raffled off to help participants carry out the solutions discussed during the workshop.
