This compelling drama is based on actual court records, media accounts, and the actual narratives of those exonerated. The authors, Erik Jensen and Jessica Blank, a husband and wife team, have been active in causes related to the death penalty and have received the Champion of Justice Award from the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for this play.
The entire script for The Exonerated is in the actual words of the exonerated prisoners, as well as the judges, attorneys, friends and family members. Audiences should be aware that all the characters are real and names have not been changed. They are currently alive and surviving their horrendous experiences as prisoners on death row. Many may have seen the HBO movie of The Exonerated.

Covenant House Michigan hosts annual Share Your Love with Homeless Teens Open House and Service Day
Share your love with young people who were never shown real love growing up. On February 11th, during Valentine’s Day weekend, Covenant House Michigan (CHM) will host their annual Share Your Love with Homeless Teens Open House and Service Day. It’s an opportunity to meet CHM residents, tour the CHM campus, ride along with the Outreach Team and see some of the areas where homeless young people frequent, as well as take part in volunteer projects. CHM encourages visitors to spread the love by bringing or mailing in a Valentine’s Day card with a donation of $14 that will help keep homeless youth warm this winter. Make a difference by showing your love for just one kid this Valentine’s season.

Film Series: The Freedom Train
The Detroit Historical Society continues its monthly film series with “The Freedom Train” at the Detroit Historical Museum. This documentary film chronicles The National Negro Labor Council (NNLC), formed in 1951, and its mission to advance blacks in the workplace and eliminate racism inside the unions. Ultimately, the Council was disbanded, but not before ten thousand people received jobs as a result of their efforts. The run time for the film is 28 minutes. Two guest speakers for this month’s film series presentation will lead respective discussions following the film. On Saturday, February 11, Karen Hudson Samuels, National Deputy Editor of Tell Us USA News Network will lead the discussion, and on Sunday, February 12, John Owens, the film’s producer, will host the discussion after the second screening. Each screening is free with regular admission to the Museum.

This compelling drama is based on actual court records, media accounts, and the actual narratives of those exonerated. The authors, Erik Jensen and Jessica Blank, a husband and wife team, have been active in causes related to the death penalty and have received the Champion of Justice Award from the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers for this play.
The entire script for The Exonerated is in the actual words of the exonerated prisoners, as well as the judges, attorneys, friends and family members. Audiences should be aware that all the characters are real and names have not been changed. They are currently alive and surviving their horrendous experiences as prisoners on death row. Many may have seen the HBO movie of The Exonerated.

The Fowler Center for Outdoor Learning will be hosting its 17th Annual Ice Fishing Tournament on Saturday, February 18, 2012. Hosted by Rob and Susie Trott of Great Lakes Outdoors, there will be two fishing sessions, 7:30-11:30am and 1:30-5:30pm, in which anglers can attempt to catch the Grand Prize Pike, worth $7,000. Other cash prizes will also be awarded to largest fish caught, oldest fisherman, youngest fisherman, and more.
The entry fee for this event is $20 per contestant, $5 per contestant for those under 17 years old. Concessions, 50/50 drawings, raffle, and door prize drawings will be available throughout the day.
