Third Thursday @ Your Library - Patton in Sicily
Community Events
On Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. Williamsburg resident Dan Malone will present a program on General George Patton's role in the 1943 invasion of Sicily. Presented as part of the Third Thursday @ Your Library series, the program is free of charge and takes place in the Williamsburg Library, 515 Scotland St. For more information, visit wrl.org/events or call (757) 259-4050.
"Although the popular film, ‘Patton,’ highlighted the 'slapping incident,' there is more drama in Patton's real-life competition with Bernard Montgomery and the Germans' escape to Italy," Malone said. "The scale of this campaign surpassed the Normandy operation, and taught the Allies valuable lessons for that later invasion."
Malone studied a rare after-action report, which he compares with the official history. The report was discovered in an attic by another Williamsburg resident, Stew Zift, whose father served as Patton's personnel officer. After it was declassified, Malone used it as a source to re-evaluate Patton's command.

This Old Coffeehouse
Arts
The newest exhibition in the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg offers guests a look behind the scenes on the process of recreating Richard Charlton’s Coffeehouse. “This Old Coffeehouse,” opening Sept. 25 at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum, reveals the archaeological, architectural, and historical sleuthing that brought this important historic building back to Duke of Gloucester Street 120 years after it was demolished.
Museum guests explore the process of developing the design, erecting the building, and furnishing the interior of the first major reconstruction project on Duke of Gloucester Street in 50 years. The exhibit promises answers to several basic questions: “How do we know? How did we do it? Why did we do it?”
“This exhibition provides our guests with a better understanding of the research required for our presentations on 18th-century life,” said Matthew Webster, Colonial Williamsburg’s director of historic architectural resources, who curated the exhibition. “The process that accura…

Williamsburg Choral Guild Winter Concert - "Mass Appeal"
Community Events
Be transported through time as you listen to three different 20th century settings of the Mass text: the folk style of "Misa Criolla" by Ramirez, the first Mass written in Spanish; the touching "Gloria," one of Rutter's most ambitious works; and the beloved "Requiem," Faure's masterpiece that is dominated by faith in eternal rest. Under the direction of Artistic Director/Conductor Jay BeVille, the Guild will be joined by soloists Sarah Walston, Garry Sloan, Kenneth Wood and Kevin McMillan; accompaniment by organist Rebecca Davy and a guitar/percussion ensemble. A pre-concert lecture by Father John David Ramsey, Catholic Chaplain at W&M, begins one hour before the musical performance.
