Theater AcousticaElectronica blends the virtuosity found in the classical concert hall with the infectious energy of the late-night dance club. The best of both worlds: artistic depth and irresistible appeal. It is sexy and classy, sensuous and stoic, irreverent and reverential. Bach meets a dance club back-beat, Chopin meets trance, Carmen’s habanera and Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata are blended with house music for a listening experience unlike anything you have ever heard before. Live musicians perform with The WIG, a classically trained, New York based DJ. Professional dancers reinvent the typical "go-go" dancer, blending ballet, jazz, modern and improvised movement. Aerialists fly above the audience as if Cirque du Soleil met a rave. A classical world becomes the technicolor world of the dance club as the audience escapes from their real lives to experience a night of dream, abandon, and ecstasy... How To Do Precisely the Right Thing at All Possible Times

Social Sciences Most experts tell us what to decide but they don’t tell us how. So the moment we face a novel decision—should I move to Cleveland or Anchorage? Marry Jennifer or Joanne? The Future of Northeast Asia: Mobilization System Life Cycles

Social Sciences Asian politics has been driven by the “Asian economic miracles,” which resulted from the use of mobilization systems. These systems work only in relatively cohesive societies motivated by a high level of fear. When successful, they either decay into stagnant domination by bloated bureaucracies and reactionary interest groups or evolve into more competitive economies and polities. China faces a decisive choice between a milder version of Japanese decay and a reignition of reforms that could yield global leadership. These evolutions will determine power relations in Asia and much of the future of global politics. Gazette Classification: Classes/Workshops. Lecture. Social Sciences. Biodiversity, Ecology, and Global Change. “Global Change, Biodiversity and Poverty: Insights from the Himalaya”

Environmental Sciences Followed by a reception. Global change in the form of climate, land use and biodiversity change is underway in the Himalayas at an unprecedented rapid rate. The Himalayas are the most spectacular of the 34 global hotspots of biodiversity. With about 15 000 glaciers—the highest concentration in the world— these mountains are also the source of Asia’s eight largest rivers. More than 2.0 billion people inhabit the basins of these rivers. Thus global change in the Himalayas is likely to have serious consequences for almost one third of the humanity. In the first part of his talk, Kamal will present recent data from his group on climate and land use change in the Himalayas. In the second part, he will outline the constraints in maintaining multi-functional landscapes that could conserve ecosystem services and foster human wellbeing. In the third and final part, he will comment on the knowledge and institutions required to promote landscape resilience. Gazette Classification: Environmental Sciences. Lecture. Sustainability. The Life of Super-Earths

The ensemble of British and American actors of Asian descent includes actress Katie Leung, best known as Harry Potter’s girlfriend Cho Chang in the film series, playing Er-Hong, the character based on Jung Chang.
