Cobb's Hill Community Series: Potluck, Movie "Tapped" and Discussion

Films "Tapped" explores the world of bottled water, from corporate efforts to privatize fresh sources and the impact on people to the production of plastic bottles and their impact on the environment. This 76-minute documentary is an inspiring and thorough examination of an unregulated industry that beckons us to question whether access to clean water is a basic right or whether it is a commodity to be exploited like any other. The discussion after the film will focus on what we can do to endure access to clean water on Cape Cod. This will include a discussion of the Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) that have been found in Cape Cod drinking water wells. The facilitator will be Steve Seymour, a Civil Engineer who has worked on Cape for 32 years and also serves as President of GreenCAPE. For the potluck, please bring a dish to share (organic and from a local source, if possible). Please RSVP to Jo Ann Kelly at jojolk@dslextrem.com. Region: Mid Cape. Town: Barnstable. Stephanie Foster - Farms of Cape Cod

Lectures / Seminars Many people don’t realize the diversity of the farms on Cape Cod from produce and livestock to local vineyards, cranberry bogs, oyster flats, as well as lavender, holly and horse. The interest in farming has grown over the years that Foster has been selling flowers at the various farmers markets on the Cape. She met the farmers through the markets and her work as a journalist. The end result is a book that goes beyond the farm markets and explores the green lifestyle in full color with 266 images that document what real farming is all about. At the talk you will learn about the farmers and why they chose their lifestyle. It's a chance to connect with our disappearing cultural heritage and the farmlands of our grandparents. For most of us, living a sustainable lifestyle, means patronizing local farmers who grow organically instead of buying food that travels 1,500 miles before reaching the supermarket. This book is a travel guide to the farms of Cape Cod that many people don’t even know exist. Sponsored by t… Region: Mid Cape. Town: Harwich. Category: Special Events. Cost: Free.
