The Maryland Science Center will open its doors for an insect invasion when it hosts Harry’s Big Adventure: My Bug World! , a multisensory experience that immerses visitors into the world of bugs by introducing them to thousands of live insects.
Hosted by Harry, a Chinese praying mantis, and his insect friends, Harry’s Big Adventure: My Bug World! takes visitors on a unique journey through the habitats, sights, sounds and social structures of some of nature’s smallest, yet most important, contributors.
Harry’s Big Adventure takes guests on an educational journey around the world through six distinct zones to see how insects impact their surroundings, the environment and ultimately human lives.

Presidential Campaign Manager and Journalist Donna Brazile to Speak at the Y of Central Maryland
On Friday, February 10, 2012, Donna Brazile, veteran democratic political strategist, adjunct professor, author, syndicated columnist and television political commentator, will speak at the Weinberg Family Center Y to discuss “Inspiring Civility in the National Political Discourse.”
A political visionary, Brazile has worked on every presidential campaign from 1976 to 2000, when she served as campaign manager for former U.S. Vice President Al Gore. She is also the first African-American woman to manage a presidential campaign.
Brazile’s speech will touch on civility for our leaders, our relationships, our communities and our selves. Following the presentation, guests will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session.

The Maryland Science Center will open its doors for an insect invasion when it hosts Harry’s Big Adventure: My Bug World! , a multisensory experience that immerses visitors into the world of bugs by introducing them to thousands of live insects.
Hosted by Harry, a Chinese praying mantis, and his insect friends, Harry’s Big Adventure: My Bug World! takes visitors on a unique journey through the habitats, sights, sounds and social structures of some of nature’s smallest, yet most important, contributors.
Harry’s Big Adventure takes guests on an educational journey around the world through six distinct zones to see how insects impact their surroundings, the environment and ultimately human lives.

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week Event
The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt will kick off the week on Sunday, Feb. 26 with former World Champion rower and elite Olympic athlete Whitney Ladd Post, who will address the complicated intersection between eating disorders and sports. In her lecture entitled “Invisible Victory: An Athlete’s Story of Hope & Triumph in Eating Disorder Recovery,” Post will share insights from her own recovery process and discuss the various struggles and strengths faced by players, coaches, trainers and teammates in the process of eating disorder prevention, identification and recovery.

11th Annual Oscar Night Baltimore Gala to benefit AIRS (AIDS Interfaith Residential Services.)
The evenings fastivities are officially sanctioned by the Motion Picture Academy of Art and Sciences and monies raised will go toward support of City Steps, AIRS supportive housing program for homeless and unstably housed youth ages 14-24.
AIRS is a 501C-3 and was founded in 1987 by the Central Maryalnd Ecumenical Council as the faith community's response to the AIDS epidemic. The first Do Miller House with opened in 1988 served four men with end-stage AIDS. Through strategic planning and community support, AIRS has expanded its programs to provide vital services to the most vulnerable populations throughout Baltimore city and County. “Love Your Tree” Art Exhibit, Recognition Ceremony and Reception
The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt will host the seventh annual “Love Your Tree” Poster Exhibit, Recognition Ceremony and Reception on Tuesday, Feb. 28. During this event, more than 250 posters created by Maryland middle school and high school students will be on display. Awards will be presented for posters that best portray the “Love Your Tree” theme of confronting narrow ideals about beauty, and embracing body diversity and acceptance. Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War”
Harford Community College Library and the Hays-Heighe House will host a free, five-part reading and discussion series called “Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War” beginning March 1.
The discussion series is based on three books: “March” by Geraldine Brooks; “Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam” by James McPherson; and “America’s War: Talking About the Civil War and Emancipation on Their 150th Anniversaries,” edited by Edward L. Ayers.
James Karmel, Ph.D. associate professor of history at Harford Community College, will lead the discussion at each session.
The book discussions will be held on Thursdays throughout the spring semester: March 1, March 15, March 29, April 19 and May 3. Each discussion will be held twice—first at 12:30 p.m. and again at 6:30 p.m.—to make participation convenient. The discussions will be held at the Hays-Heighe House.

Kidney Disease Screenings
As part of NKF-MD’s mission of early detection and early intervention, KEY screenings identify early markers for high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease.
No appointments are needed for the screening and any adult can participate. Lasting about 20 minutes, the screening includes a blood test, as well as blood pressure and weight checks. For more information, call NKF-MD at 410-494-8545 or visit www.kidneymd.org.

A pair of distinguished local non-profit organizations -- Blind Industries and Services of Maryland (BISM) and The Polakoff Foundation -- are teaming up for a unique Mardi Gras Celebration fundraiser March 3, 2012 at the Baltimore Sheraton North in Towson from 7-11 p.m.
If you have ever partied down Bourbon Street, or if you have always wanted to experience what New Orleans is all about, you don’t want to miss this sure-to-be memorable night. Kidney Disease Screenings
As part of NKF-MD’s mission of early detection and early intervention, KEY screenings identify early markers for high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease.
No appointments are needed for the screening and any adult can participate. Lasting about 20 minutes, the screening includes a blood test, as well as blood pressure and weight checks. For more information, call NKF-MD at 410-494-8545 or visit www.kidneymd.org.
One out of every nine Americans has or will develop chronic kidney disease, and most affected do not realize it until the condition has progressed. In fact, 145 of the 568 people screened last year by NKF-MD demonstrated significant results.
