Planning & Development Rocky Mount's Historic Preservation Commission consists of nine members appointed by the mayor and the City Council. The pertinent ordinance stipulates that a majority of the commissioners must demonstrate expertise in history or architecture through special interest, education, or experience. The Historic Preservation Commission is responsible for protecting the architectural integrity of the local historic districts and local landmarks. Japanese Embroidery

Originating in China, this thousand year old needle art was refined and perfected in Japan for decorative objects and especially for kimono and obi. The embroideries are worked on silk and fabric held in a wooden frame. The stitching is done with silk and metal threads using Japanese needles and other tools. Planning & Development Rocky Mount's Historic Preservation Commission consists of nine members appointed by the mayor and the City Council. The pertinent ordinance stipulates that a majority of the commissioners must demonstrate expertise in history or architecture through special interest, education, or experience. The Historic Preservation Commission is responsible for protecting the architectural integrity of the local historic districts and local landmarks. To meet that responsibility, the commission reviews all applications from property owners and residents for certificates of appropriateness to make certain kinds of changes within the historic districts. Applications are reviewed to determine if the proposed changes are consistent with design guidelines.
