High school seniors and their parents are invited to a free workshop on Jan. 21 or Feb. 4 from 9 a.m. to noon to learn how to apply for college scholarships and, in particular, NV Energy’s Powerful Partnerships Scholarship Program.

To support the attainment of higher education for southern Nevada youth, NV Energy offers the Powerful Partnerships Scholarship Program. Since the program’s inception in 2000, NV Energy has awarded more than 500 scholarships; last year, over $84,000 in scholarships was awarded to high school seniors. The Powerful Partnerships Program offers the most individual scholarships of any scholarship program in Nevada.

Michael Plyler, a UNLV alumnus (class of 1977), presents a thirty year retrospective of his photographs of the Maya of Guatemala at the Barrick Museum on campus from January 13 - April 2, 2012. Join us for a photographic exploration of the changing lives of contemporary Mayan Indians, as seen through the lens of Michael Plyler’s camera. Plyler's black and white images record the beauty and resolute strength of this fascinating culture. Plyler's work spans the early eighties through 2008, including some of the most intense years of the civil war which plagued the country for thirty six years. Trained as an archaeologist, Plyler brings an anthropological perspective to his photography, and his work is in permanent collections throughout the Western hemisphere. Michael Plyler, a UNLV alumnus (class of 1977), presents a thirty year retrospective of his photographs of the Maya of Guatemala at the Barrick Museum on campus from January 13 - April 2, 2012. Join us for a photographic exploration of the changing lives of contemporary Mayan Indians, as seen through the lens of Michael Plyler’s camera. Plyler's black and white images record the beauty and resolute strength of this fascinating culture. Plyler's work spans the early eighties through 2008, including some of the most intense years of the civil war which plagued the country for thirty six years. Trained as an archaeologist, Plyler brings an anthropological perspective to his photography, and his work is in permanent collections throughout the Western hemisphere. The 2012 Red Rock Canyon Art Contest will be hosted by the Bureau of Land Management, Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association, and Friends of Red Rock Canyon. This is open to all Southern Nevada Kindergarten through 12th grade students. All art must represent native Wildlife of Red Rock Canyon and the Mojave Desert.
The purpose of the art representing Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area or the Mojave Desert is to make students research and learn more about the desert they call home. There are two categories: 1) Black and White, and 2) Colored. There will be a 1st place winner for each grade in each category. There will be one best of show for grades K-5, one best of show for grades 6-8, and one best of show for grades 9-12.

Maya - A Thirty Year Retrospective: Photographs by Michael Plyler

Michael Plyler, a UNLV alumnus (class of 1977), presents a thirty year retrospective of his photographs of the Maya of Guatemala at the Barrick Museum on campus from January 13 - April 2, 2012. Join us for a photographic exploration of the changing lives of contemporary Mayan Indians, as seen through the lens of Michael Plyler’s camera. Plyler's black and white images record the beauty and resolute strength of this fascinating culture. Plyler's work spans the early eighties through 2008, including some of the most intense years of the civil war which plagued the country for thirty six years. Trained as an archaeologist, Plyler brings an anthropological perspective to his photography, and his work is in permanent collections throughout the Western hemisphere. Maya - A Thirty Year Retrospective: Photographs by Michael Plyler

Michael Plyler, a UNLV alumnus (class of 1977), presents a thirty year retrospective of his photographs of the Maya of Guatemala at the Barrick Museum on campus from January 13 - April 2, 2012. Join us for a photographic exploration of the changing lives of contemporary Mayan Indians, as seen through the lens of Michael Plyler’s camera. Plyler's black and white images record the beauty and resolute strength of this fascinating culture. Plyler's work spans the early eighties through 2008, including some of the most intense years of the civil war which plagued the country for thirty six years. Trained as an archaeologist, Plyler brings an anthropological perspective to his photography, and his work is in permanent collections throughout the Western hemisphere. Over the course of years his portraits record the subtle changes and diminishment of the traditional dress, or traje. Mayan culture predates Rome by almost 1,0…

In an effort to educate the green industry and arborist community on tree care and best practices, Cooperative Extension, the Southern Nevada Arborist Group, Shade Tree Council and Nevada Division of Forestry present the Annual Professional Tree Care Seminar and Workshop in English and in Spanish. Michael Plyler, a UNLV alumnus (class of 1977), presents a thirty year retrospective of his photographs of the Maya of Guatemala at the Barrick Museum on campus from January 13 - April 2, 2012. Join us for a photographic exploration of the changing lives of contemporary Mayan Indians, as seen through the lens of Michael Plyler’s camera. Plyler's black and white images record the beauty and resolute strength of this fascinating culture. Plyler's work spans the early eighties through 2008, including some of the most intense years of the civil war which plagued the country for thirty six years. Trained as an archaeologist, Plyler brings an anthropological perspective to his photography, and his work is in permanent collections throughout the Western hemisphere. Maya - A Thirty Year Retrospective: Photographs by Michael Plyler

Michael Plyler, a UNLV alumnus (class of 1977), presents a thirty year retrospective of his photographs of the Maya of Guatemala at the Barrick Museum on campus from January 13 - April 2, 2012. Join us for a photographic exploration of the changing lives of contemporary Mayan Indians, as seen through the lens of Michael Plyler’s camera. Plyler's black and white images record the beauty and resolute strength of this fascinating culture. Plyler's work spans the early eighties through 2008, including some of the most intense years of the civil war which plagued the country for thirty six years. Trained as an archaeologist, Plyler brings an anthropological perspective to his photography, and his work is in permanent collections throughout the Western hemisphere. Over the course of years his portraits record the subtle changes and diminishment of the traditional dress, or traje. Mayan culture predates Rome by almost 1,0…
