Speak Truth To Power - Human Rights Defenders Who Are Changing Our World

Museum The museum’s special exhibit, Speak Truth To Power, explores the issue of human rights through a collection of 50 large, emotional, portraits of people from around the world who have stood up against injustice. These beautiful portraits, created by Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Eddie Adams in 2000, bring us face to face with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Elie Wiesel, the Dalai Lama, Marian Wright Edelman, and other inspiring human rights defenders. The exhibition can be appreciated on a number of levels. Adams’ photographs are stunning works of art in their own right, the stories of the human rights defenders, compiled by RFK Center founder Kerry Kennedy, have the power to inspire action, and the parallels that can be drawn between the important issues of the 1960s and the continuing abuses of individual rights can enlighten us as to the work that still needs to be done. Weekly opinion topics give exhibition guests an opportunity to participate in a public discussion about issues that affect us all.… Sunday, October 26, 2014, 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Viviane Silvera: Therapy Series

Project: Identify Fall 2014 - Inspiring Teen Expression Through Creative Arts

Arts & Entertainment Come join us at the Conservatory for the newest installment of Project: Identity. You do not need to be experienced in visual or performing arts, music, public speaking, photography... you just need to be yourself! We will learn these skills together. The group will share individual creative works while continuing to be inspired by each others' art and music. The program provides an understanding of the importance and need for creative arts and gives teens a safe and encouraging environment for expression to thrive. True Crime of Hudson Valley, New York’s First Murder for Hire

Lectures / Seminars Presented by local author and police detective Michael J. Worden. Buffet dinner will start at six o’clock and after the meal, Michael J. Worden will discuss the macabre subject of the scandalous murder of Richard Jennings, the first murder for hire in New York that occurred right here in Orange County in the small village of Sugar Loaf. The prosecution team, assisted by future president Martin Van Buren, led to two men facing the gallows and two men in prison. What caused good Orange County families to resort to murder? Was one of the murderers wrongfully imprisoned for 22 years? And how did one of the murderers end up with a monument in his honor? These questions and many more will be answered as well as the benefit of hearing new information that Michael has uncovered that’s not even in his book.
