Grab your colored markers, crayons or colored pencils and enter the 17th annual Grand Kids Festival Banner Design Contest. Deadline for entries is Monday, February 20th. Entries may be created with colored markers (preferred), crayons, or colored pencil.
Open to students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade, this is not your average coloring contest. In this competition, the winning designs are actually re-created by the winning students on vinyl banners and displayed from light posts for all to see! "Twinkle Twonkle" is inspired by Mother Goose's most beloved nursery rhymes and is a magical tale of two children's adventure throughout the galaxy as they explore the science of our solar system. Stella loves the stars. Every evening she gazes at them through her telescope. But one night her little brother Ryan wishes on a star, extends the telescope all the way to space, and starts climbing up it. As Stella follows him, will she find Ryan in the night sky and solve the mysteries of the universe before it’s too late?

Auditions for the Missoula Children's Theatre production of “The Tortoise versus the Hare” will be held Monday, April 9, 2012 at 4:30pm at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston. There will be roles for students in Kindergarten through High School. Approximately 50-60 local students will be cast to appear in the show. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session. The first rehearsal begins approximately 15-30 minutes after the audition. This will be a group audition – no advance preparation is required. The Grand is located at 2020 Postoffice Street in historic downtown Galveston.
Rehearsals will be conducted every day from 4:30pm to 8:30pm at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston culminating with two presentations of the show -11am and 1pm - during The Grand Kids Festival on Saturday April 14th. Both performances will be presented on stage at The Grand.
