Medical Forum and Project Tour
Healthcare providers’ budgets are shrinking and are expected to shrink in the foreseeable future. Our clients demand that we prove that every dollar spent is justified. Research provides architects with the justification necessary to prove that what we design actually adds value to the bottom line. This conference will deal with incorporation of research into design practice: finding resources, application and initiation of research within the practice. Program features a project tour on the second day of the program.

The Business of Green: What's New, What's Not?
Our February Signal Issues Panel Workshop will be co-hosted by the Workshops and Emerging Professionals Committees. What can we say? It's a great topic and both seasoned pros and those newer to the field are interested in what's new in the land of cost. How are new incentives affecting decisions, are there new ideas and innovations in funding mechanisms, green valuation, supply chain efficiency? Let's review some great case study examples, etc. and of course, what changes are being incorporated due to the economy and the "recovery". Please join us for lively dialogue, a great networking opportunity, and a bit of fun too! Refreshments provided.
We have an amazing panel that includes local, private sector developers and corporate sustainability managers. If you want to hear what's really going on, these are the people in the front lines of green building cost on a daily basis!

Managing Environmental Data with Microsoft Access 2010
Description: This is the second course in a 2-part series Managing Environmental Data with Microsoft Access 2010 (COMP-401 and 402). In the first class, COMP-401, students learn the basic elements of constructing queries, forms, macros and reports. In this portion, they will build on those skills by creating end-user application examples that bring the newly learned elements together. Access analytic tools, PivotCharts, and PivotTables will be introduced, and an SQL primer will be included. This course is separate from COMP-401 so that students may take it at a later date if they do not have flexibility in their schedule, however we highly recommend that the two courses be taken together. COMP-402 is not meant to be taken as a stand-alone class without first taking COMP-401.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
- Apply complex query functions to databases
- Create and design pivot charts and pivot tables
- Perform complex queries using multiple tables

Effective Facilitation Skills and Techniques for Professionals
Facilitation skills are used to form productive teams, plan programs, and to implement controversial projects. Trained facilitators help groups communicate productively, constructively manage diverse points of view, and create concrete actions as a result of meetings. It is also a personally satisfying experience when you, as the meeting facilitator, bring out the best in the people in a meeting and can help a team improve its performance.
In addition to presenting a core program of facilitation skills and substantial practice with these skills, in this course we tailor the experience to the participants’ specific needs. We do this by having participants complete a pre-workshop needs profile. By combining the core curriculum with the participants’ needs the training experience is customized to each audience and demonstrates the practicality of implementing the concepts in real-life situations.
A study by Microsoft® pointed to worthless meetings as a major time waster in America. Respondents in their su…

Introduction to Aquatics Permitting
The focus of this training is to teach environmental professionals the process for obtaining permits for a variety of aquatic environments in a timely fashion. In order to do so, it is necessary to identify all needed permits at the start of project planning, understand the implications involved with a project, develop a permitting schedule, and coordinate early with permitting agencies.
Attendees will learn the basics of working closely with project engineers, clients, and biologists to ensure that permit applications are complete upon submission. Another key course topic is a discussion of how to communicate with permitting agencies so they are aware of changes throughout the design process.
Information will be shared regarding what is required to obtain aquatic permits from federal, state, tribal, and local agencies including the Corps of Engineers, Washington Department of Ecology, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and various cities and counties. In addition, enrollees will find out how…
