Custom Field Icons

You can display icons with your events to help calendar visitors more quickly identify events they are interested in and give your calendar a more professional look and feel.  For instance, you can assign icons to event categories or event locations and display those icons with events.  The image below shows custom field icons displayed in the table calendar view spud.

How to add custom field icons

You use a list of choices custom field to define the values and associated icons and then assign those values to your events. Follow the steps below to create your field and add values and icons.

  1. Create a list of choices custom field. Learn more...

    Note: If you have an existing field that was created before December 18, 2008 you will need to convert the field to the new enhanced list of choices field in order to add custom field icons. Learn more...

  2. Enable an image icon field and enter your list of choices:
    • On the Edit Field form, click Add New Value.  A popup entry form will be displayed.
    • Click Enable Image Icon Field at the bottom of the popup form.  An image field will be added to the form.  This step only has to be performed once.  The image field will automatically be available when adding further values.
    • Enter name and upload your image icon and select OK.

Displaying icons in published views

The icons you add to custom field values can be shown along with events in published views. Custom field icons are available in most spuds including calendar views, event detail views, promotion spuds, the filter spud, the RSS feed and the event actions display.

Icons must be enabled using the spud settings for each individual spud.

Custom field icons can be displayed next to the event description in calendar views and promotion spuds.

If your custom field allows multiple values to be selected for an event, an icon for each value will be displayed with the event.

If you have multiple custom fields that have associated icons, you can select which fields to display icons for.

Icons can also be shown next to field values on views that support displaying custom field values. The image below shows the detail view with custom field icons included with the field values.

Filter spud icons

If you are filtering by a field that has associated icons, you can display the icons next to each field value. Adding a filter spud with icons helps comminucate the meaning of icons in the main calendar view.

Icons are available for multiple-value filters but not single-value filters.

Edit spud settings to enable icons

Icons can be enabled on spuds through the spud settings in the Publishing Control Panel. Select the Edit Settings & Settings link for each spud to access the settings shown below.

Event icon fields: Select one or more fields from the list to have their icons displayed next to the event description. Only list of choices type fields that include icons are available for selection.

Show field value icons: This setting is available on spuds that are capable of displaying custom field values. When this setting is enabled, any custom fields displayed in the spud will include the icon next to the field value.
